About Phoenix Street Children's Centre

Welcome to Phoenix Street Children’s Centre

Phoenix Street Children’s Centre is a warm, not-for-profit, community-based service where children and families feel welcome and supported.

We provide high-quality early learning and care on a full-time or part-time basis. Our educators build strong, caring relationships with each child so they feel safe, secure, and confident to learn and grow.

We proudly support a multicultural community. Families from many backgrounds are welcomed and respected, with bilingual educators able to support communication in Vietnamese, Arabic, Spanish, and Maltese. Children are also exposed to Vietnamese and English through songs, stories, music, and play.

To support families, nappies are provided, and our in-house cook prepares fresh, nutritious meals each day, which are included as part of the program.

Our play-based program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and shaped by children’s interests. We also value sustainability and help children learn to care for their environment.

Phoenix Street is more than a children’s centre. It is a caring community where children belong and families are valued.

Our Leadership Team

Lina Gomes, Centre Director

Hello, my name is Lina Gomes, and I am the Centre Director at Phoenix Street Children’s Centre. With over 17 years of experience in early childhood education, I am deeply passionate about creating a warm, safe, and inspiring environment where every child feels valued and supported to thrive. I believe the early years lay the foundation for lifelong learning, and I am committed to providing high-quality programs that reflect each child’s interests, strengths, and developmental needs, guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards. I take great pride in leading a collaborative, reflective team and building strong, trusting partnerships with families through open communication and care. Outside of work, I am a proud mother of two children aged 14 and 7, run a small baking business, love sports cars, and hold my faith and beliefs close. I was born in Bangladesh and spent 15 years there, and my culture and heritage are an important part of who I am. I feel privileged to support children and families during such an important stage of life and look forward to welcoming you into our Phoenix Street community.

“Our whole family has always felt welcomed, with genuine care and concern for our children.”

“My family has been involved with Phoenix Street Children’s Centre, a not-for-profit, community-based service, since 2020. Both our boys have attended the service over this time… From routine drop-offs, we are always enthusiastically greeted, and there is genuine care and concern for our children, both of whom have loved being at the service…

Diversity is embraced and celebrated at the Centre, which I am grateful my children have been exposed to from an early age… Many of the staff that were at the service when we started in 2020 are still there today, a very rare thing in the childcare sector, and something that has supported strong continuity of care…

It quickly becomes obvious that Phoenix Street lives and breathes its values. The Centre provides an inclusive and nurturing environment, respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, positive inclusion of all families, and strong connections to the community… I see and feel the Centre’s commitment to educating and caring for children every time I walk in.”

“It makes me feel that the family belongs to the centre too, not only my child.”

“All staff at Phoenix childcare are so loving and caring. Kira absolutely loves to go to childcare every day… When I take Kira to childcare, every single staff member gives me a big smile and a very welcoming moment…

The educators go above and beyond to support our family, especially as Kira is a child who has very challenging behaviour. The team in the kinder room works very hard to support Kira and my family. It makes me feel that I’m not alone… Kira is always excited to tell me about her day. The program is creative and engaging, and it provides a range of different activities to suit the child’s milestones…

I feel confident that all children are in a safe and nurturing environment. The centre celebrates multicultural cultures, making everyone feel a sense of belonging and inclusion… It’s reassuring to have long-term, consistent educators who know my child well. Kira and my family will miss every educator a lot.”

“My 10-year-old still says Phoenix Street is better than primary school.”

“Because of that, it was no surprise that I enrolled my youngest at Phoenix Street as well. He started in the babies’ room and is now nearly two, happily enjoying the bigger toddler room and the outdoor play spaces…

Many of the educators who cared for my eldest are still at the centre today, and they continue to make him feel welcome by inviting him to sit down and join in…

While the centre may look a little old or weathered from the outside, inside is where the true magic happens. Warm, caring educators make you feel at ease and part of the Phoenix Street family.”
